{"id":385,"date":"2011-04-25T19:56:21","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T19:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keithspecialty.wordpress.com\/?p=385"},"modified":"2019-12-27T22:11:17","modified_gmt":"2019-12-27T22:11:17","slug":"baseboard-btus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keithspecialty.com\/blog\/baseboard-btus\/","title":{"rendered":"Baseboard BTU&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Often we are asked how many BTU&#8217;s are in a foot of baseboard heating.<\/p>\n<p>To answer this,\u00a0the following must be considered: \u00a0is the baseboard heating system\u00a0electric, steam or water?\u00a0\u00a0For this post we limit it to hot water baseboard.<\/p>\n<p>Finding\u00a0(1)\u00a0the temperature and rate of the water passing through the baseboard, (2)\u00a0the size of the copper tube and (3) the specifications of the baseboard from the\u00a0manufacturer will\u00a0provide a more precise answer.<\/p>\n<p>We sell <a href=\"https:\/\/keithspecialty.com\/k\/argo-baseboard-.75-inch.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Argo Low Trim II baseboard<\/a> which can produce 570 BTU\/hr at a water temperature of 180 degrees, at a pump rate of 1 gal per minute. \u00a0 You can find this information at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.argobaseboard.com\/lo-trim-ii\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Argo&#8217;s website for Low Trim II<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This amount of BTU&#8217;s per foot, combined with a heat loss\u00a0calculation, can determine how many feet of\u00a0baseboard\u00a0are\u00a0needed to heat a room. Heat loss calculation is a complicated number to determine. \u00a0It involves knowing the average outside winter temperature, how the room is\u00a0insulated,\u00a0square footage\u00a0of the room, and number of\u00a0windows and doors. \u00a0There are heat loss software programs that are used to input all the variables to get a result of \u00a0BTU&#8217;s required to heat a room or house. \u00a0 One can use a\u00a0rough estimate of 50 BTUs\/hr per square foot.\u00a0 Keep in mind that a\u00a0rough\u00a0estimate\u00a0is\u00a0just that, an estimate.<\/p>\n<p>An example is that if you have a room that is 20 x 24 and are trying to determine the amount of baseboard, a rough estimate of BTU&#8217;s required would be (24&#215;20) \u00a0*50 BTU&#8217;s\/hr = 24000. The number of baseboard feet would be 2400 \/ 570, or 42 ft of Argo baseboard.<\/p>\n<p>Baseboard is often installed under windows.
